Grab a coin…Or tap the one above
Everything we do has an inherent duality embeded within it, which can be reduced to the following: Heads or Tails.
Either side represents a choice. Neither choice is better or worse than the other, but neither can exist at the same time as the other.
In this spirit; we have provided two backgrounds to the creation of our EP; ‘The Fall Of Ahmed’. We invite you to flip a coin and read whichever side you’ve landed on.

2019
‘The Fall Of Ahmed’ EP is our official release and the first formalised results of our experiments with our chance driven creative process.
Origins of the title
The title is a nod to the retiring of our previous moniker ‘Project Ahmed’ under which we began conducting our creative chance-influenced experiments.
Each of the 3 tracks was subject to the same process of randomisation.
The writing process for these 3 tracks started the same way as the writing process for all our pieces. First, we must find a way to arrive at starting bpm & time signature for the track. In the case of these 3 songs, we began with:
Mum Jokes Hurt The Child = 62 bpm | 18/16
Brad Und Angelina = 111bpm | 4/4
Intelligence Gaps = 329 bpm | 8/4
From there we are subject to the whims of chance that pick from a pool of rules we have invented for ourselves.

‘The Fall Of Ahmed’ EP is our official release and the first formalised results of our experiments with our chance driven creative process.
Origins of the title
The title is a nod to Ahmed H. Zewail who won a Nobel prize (1999) for his work in the field of femtochemistry. He passed away in August 2016. Though he had cancer and was in recovery, the cause of his death is unknown.
The pieces of work that make up this body of work are inspired by our interpretation of concepts and principals of physical chemistry (not to be confused with chemical physics), particularly the ‘Phase Rule’; ascertaining the degrees of freedom (F), through number of components (C), and number of phases (P). The equation is expressed as;
In many ways, our process is a play on this same equation. For us, the number of components is the objects, methods, and ‘rules’ that we abide by, and phases are the equivalent of our ‘turns’. The relationship between those 2 dictates the degree of ‘creative’ freedom that we are given.
The tracks
Each of the track takes inspiration from either an equation important to the field femtochemistry, or a moment in history and growth of the field itself.
‘Mum Jokes Hurt The Child‘ draws its inspiration from a femtosecond. A SI unit of time that is expressed as 10-15 or 1⁄1 000 000 000 000 000 of a second.
‘Brad Und Angelina‘ is inspired by the filtering back of a Fourier Transformed pulse, to yield a new pulse. Expressed mathematically as:
‘Intelligence Gaps‘ is an abstract challenge to Ahmed H. Zewail’s 1988 article in which he describes femtochemistry for the first time as being “chemistry on the femtosecond timescale”.

The music you hear across this 3-track release has been created through a process driven entirely by randomness and chance… seriously.
Every decision, from; time signature, bpm, to what instruments are allowed to be used, almost everything is decided by the roll of a die, the flip of a card, the toss of a coin, and many other randomising strategies to take the entire creative process out of our direct control.
This chance-based process began as a series of experiments between Łoł’s two members. Both members decided to formalise these experiments as a series of releases.
‘The Fall of Ahmed’ is their first official release.
