Presenting the BPM suggestion tool and random time signature generator by Łoł music

This funky app takes input in the form of a random search term, cat, for example, it then uses that search term in wikipedia using the actual current uploaded article, it then applies a bunch of crazy algorithms to determine a random BPM (between 60 and 900) and radomly generated time signature (eg. 4/4, 3/4, 7/4 etc.)

It was coded by our friend Eli Cauley (@small_signs on Twitter) using a series of hyper complex instructions that we simply couldn’t begin to explain and be able to retain any sort of cool social credits.

But that’s what this is, this is Geek 3.0, this is sitting down to write a song and knowing that “John Goodman” has just assigned the song you are working on a BPM of 564bpm (cheers John)… totally reasonable, i don’t expect this to be challenging at all, that is untill you release that “Macaroni” has just given you a random time signature of 7/4 to work with. Gee, thanks Macaroni.

Finally, this music tool aims to take you experimental music making to a next level by introducing turn lengths. Once again by typing in a value, this app will search Wikipedia articles and return a random ‘turn length’ for the next stage in your music writing process. As an example typing in “Chipotle” might result in a ‘turn length’ of 14 minutes, Enough time to get into a groove but get lost in it…

The idea of introducing a ‘turn length’ means you don’t get hyper focussed or stuck in a rut during the music writing process. To make things even more interesting why not try using A.R.T. for your turn length? It will generate random rules and creative suggestions to guide you on the next step in your current track.

A.R.T. is a multi-functional tool that includes a whole host of random rules including BPM rules and Time Signature based rules.
